Hummus is a popular vegetarian dish that comes from the Middle Eastern gastronomy. It is a light and very creamy spread made with chickpeas, Tahini (a paste made from toasted sesame seeds), lemon, garlic and spices. The combination of these ingredients give the hummus its nutty delicious flavor that is almost impossible to resist.
If you love hummus, you will be happy to know that it is really easy to make from scratch and we all know there is nothing like homemade. So stop buying the packaged kind and begin making it yourself with this very easy to follow recipe.
You can serve it as a dip with fresh pita bread, in a wrap with grilled vegetables or just scoop a bit on top of a salad.
Servings: 3-4
Ingredients:
300 gram jar of chickpeas (pre- cooked)
1 tablespoon of Tahini
3 tablespoons of olive oil - plus a drizzle for garnish
1 garlic clove
1/2 lemon juice
Pinch of cumin powder
Pinch of salt
Paprika powder - for garnish
Preparation:
Add the chickpeas (including the juice), olive oil, Tahini paste, and lemon juice to the blender and mix until smooth. Peel the garlic and incorporate along with the cumin and salt. Continue to mix and do not stop unless you have achieved a perfectly light and creamy consistency.
Taste for seasoning and adjust as necessary. I normally add a bit more of salt and lemon juice for it´s freshness.
Place the hummus in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil and paprika powder.
